I recently watched a video that said 50% of what you do is purely out of habit.  I don’t think anyone knows the exact percentage, but I do know it is a significant percentage.

As my coaching clients know, awareness and understanding of the underlying reasons or motivations behind a habit can go a long ways to breaking it.  When we expand our self-awareness and become more consciously aware of what we are doing and why we are doing it, it puts us in a much better position to choose a different action.

The more often you can consciously choose your actions – especially choosing something that is more in line with your best interest as opposed to the old habit – the more the old habits weaken and the new choices become the new habits.

Of course, there are many approaches to dealing with bad habits, and this is just one.  But this approach does work if done wholeheartedly.

Due to my background as a clinical psychologist I’ve been trained in and have used many different approaches. But this is the one I always come back to because it works the best.

The caveat with this approach is that it requires one to look at things that may be uncomfortable. But as a trader, I know discomfort is part trading.

If you’re motivated to change and are willing to look at things that may be uncomfortable, and you want guidance with this process, consider my self-paced Advanced Course or one-on-one coaching.
